general sweet manufactures

Inside the store
eating dairy ice creams and honey sweets
looking at the jams and wholesale candy with large eyes
my face is jade green; full of imported stuff
Caribbean heads looking in
strange angles at me

general sweet manufactures
tells me of new production lines;
saccharine kitten lollipops and
brackish decapitated candy stick monarchs

I stop by a batch of departed bloody heads
tasting of basil and salt
tasting yummy

This made me laugh. The candy store setting and the rather gross images create a complex absurdistic mixture that has a perky tone. Great poem!

This is so vivid. "dairy creams and honey sweets."

I read it with a post-colonial lens. Works brilliantly.

i always thought candy was the stuff dreams were made of ... but maybe dreams are the stuff candy is made of

After the sweet start, this takes quite the surreal turn. Those manufacturers are offering some very strange tastes :).
