raindrops

there is desperation
in the greenest trees
a secret conflagration
in the coolest breeze

the kitten at the window
the butterfly in the air
watch the raindrops follow
each other in despair

and when the leaves fall
yellow in the rain
the sidewalk hears them call
a whispered name

Yes; the joint greatness of desperation and affection makes a striking poem.

I like the juxtaposition of the seemingly beautiful and the strikingly sad.

sometimes the declarative just rings true. i do not know why that is. this does that. cf. Georg Trakl:
"It is a stubble field, where a black rain is falling.
It is a brown tree, that stands alone." why, yes, of course. bravo to you.

timmy,

I like this very much:

"a secret conflagration
in the coolest breeze"

And I agree with what you are saying about desperation. You express it so well here.
